Dr David Pattemore

Science Team Leader – Pollination & Apiculture, Plant & Food Research, Hamilton, New Zealand

Biography

Dr David Pattemore leads Plant and Food Research’s (PFR) Pollination and Apiculture team, with 20 staff based in Hamilton and Christchurch, New Zealand, and in Brisbane, Australia. The team has a diverse portfolio of research projects covering honey bee health, bee behaviour, alternative pollinators (including bumble bees, native bees and flies) and the pollination of fruit, nut and vegetable seed crops. David has particular research interests in how the interaction between flowers and insect behaviour affects pollination, and in the use of radio telemetry for studying insect behaviour. David leads a 5-year Hort Innovation and PFR programme on enhancing crop pollination in Australia through improved understanding of crop pollination requirements and new tools to protect honey bee health. David has been at Plant & Food Research for the last seven years since completing his PhD at Princeton University in the USA.
